Irvine Athletic junior section covers a wide variety of disciplines.
From September to March, cross country is the main focus for the junior club.
Training is mostly outdoors, Irvine low green is a favourite training area as its right next to the club. Runs down to Irvine harbour area are also used when the nights are crisp and dry.
The club also has a indoor gym area that is used by coaches for conditioning, circuit training and drills.
There is also a weights room that coaches use for the more advanced athletes who are supervised at all times by a coach.
During the summer months the training takes place on the track and field area behind the Club. The grass track is one of the best in Scotland and is maintained by club members.
There is a throws cage, shot putt circle and a marked out Javelin area. Jumps are also catered for with a long jump pit and high jump mats.
The Junior Club takes part in all the Ayrshire and Scottish Championships for Cross Country and Track and Field.
During the cross country season there are a number of local and district races that the club encourages all its young athletes to take part in. Those who are keen and show promise can enter for the district and Scottish Championship races.
The Club also enters two Track and Field leagues over the summer months and all young athletes are encouraged to support the Club at these meetings.
The Junior section holds a number of presentation and celebration disco’s throughout the year and all family members are welcome.
Most Athletic events are covered by the local press and any young athlete showing promise and working hard at their event will get featured in these articles.
